Many people like myself have become vegetarians because of the cruelty that is so prevalent in the meat industry. I personally feel most people would thrive on a vegetarian diet.
I realize this may be difficult for those die hard carnivores that love the taste of meat. There really are some great meat alternatives. Scientist are currently working on a soy based chicken that mimics the taste and texture of real chicken.
This is something that I am sure would appeal to many folks just not me. I once had to remove myself from whole foods because someone had requested vegan chopped liver. Mentally I know it's liver and meat free, yet the gross factor was just to high for me to handle. I honestly can't fathom why anyone would want simulated liver.
I am sure I'm the anomaly. Maybe I was never much of a meat eater but what drove me to become a vegetarian is the horrific conditions and cruelty that takes place in so many slaughter houses. I can also honestly say that I benefited physically by omitting meat from my diet.
I wish more people would consider going vegetarian, it's far more doable than you think and the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

I can't help but worry about how processed the foods must be to create meat alternatives. I try to buy and consume organic and free range meats whenever possible.
Interesting post...very thought provoking..thanks for making me think tonight!
Actually they are not necessarily processed- this is just the process to find the right combination to create a product that mimics real chicken. I would think the finished product would be unprocessed as well as organic.
That's very interesting. My daughter is almost completely vegetarian. Thanks for a thought provoking post.
My husband would love this post! He's been hinting around at it, but I'm just not ready, lol!
Well I agree..being vegetarian is really good for the system, provided we know and follow all means needed to make it a balanced meal. I have seen lots of people turn into vegetarians and do things like not have enough proteins etc... they just ended up anaemic.. so that is the only thing you gotta make sure of..
I suppose I'm one of those carnivores that love meat! I don't really eat it all too often but would never completely write it off. We are at the top of the food chain for a reason! Sorry :)
