Many people find pedometers to be beneficial. They're motivating and inspire more activity in the wearer. Well, I'm not one of those people, but I recognize that they have helped many attain a healthy fitness level and that's always a good thing.
I never thought in a million years that I would be excited over a pedometer. That's because the Omron HJ-720ITC is not your average pedometer.
Counts Calories and Fat Grams Burned
This unit not only accurately counts steps, it actually calculates the amount of calories and fat burned. I'm in love! Another really cool feature is that the HJ-720ITC can distinguish between regular steps and aerobic steps. Perfect feature for power walking.
Displays miles walked
My treadmill displays this information, but in the nice weather I like to take walks and I always wished I had the precise knowledge of just how many miles I've walked.
Setting up the Omron-720 is a breeze. Simply program the time, weight and your stride length. Stride length is easy to determine. I followed Omron's instructions as well as guesstimated and my stride length is two feet. I was off a bit in my guess:)
All the information; steps, mileage, calories/fat grams burned, aerobic steps, is displayed in the unit itself and is clear and easy to read. The information is stored for seven days.
The unit comes with optional software. Now the instruction manual says "operation guaranteed on Windows 2000/XP/Vista", but I had absolutely no problem uploading the program on Windows 7. From what I read on Amazon, the only operating system that appears to be a problem is Mac. I'm glad I don't have Mac because I really like having this software.
Here's my data from an hour spent on the treadmill. As you can see I have a total of 7,455 steps and 7,332 of those steps were at an aerobic pace; the device picks up a quicker pace, which I really like. I walked a distance of 4.69 miles and burned 348 calories...and last but not least, I burned 25.5 grams of fat. Woo Hoo!!
You are given the option of creating a PDF or CSY file. I created a PDF file so that a month down the road I can evaluate my progress.
Omron is a highly reputable company and has been a trusted name in producing healthcare equipment for quite some time now. I don't know much about pedometers, so I took a little time to read some of the reviews on Amazon. Close to 1500 reviews for this unit and an almost 5 star rating. Those that have experience with pedometers say this is the best and I certainly don't doubt that for a second.
I'm starting to appreciate why so many people find pedometers motivating. I'm extremely competitive and I now have the desire to set step goals for myself. This device has so many nice features. Today was the first day I used my Omron HJ-720 and I'm already loving it! This will certainly be a nice asset to my fitness regime.

Actually Anita, the device itself displays that information. I wanted to stipulate that info because I don't want any Mac uses dismissing the product.

May is High BP education month! I had no idea :)
Both my Honey/Hubby and me (I) are afflicted with/by hypertension and we've tried just about every Blood Pressure Monitor - and none have been satisfactory. Omron makes a whole line of BP cuffs for both wrist and upper arms (and in all prices ranges) and I'm very interested in their top of the line upper arm model, 10 Series.
I also noted that they carry home Nebulizers in a wide range of styles and prices. That is another device we would be interested in. Thanks!
