Is PETA Driving You Crazy?

PETA is an acronym that stands for: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals,  this is something I believe in wholeheartedly.    I love animals and I hate the thought of any animal suffering, so I do what I'm able to do to help animals and this includes  practicing a vegan lifestyle 95% of the time.   I'm a firm believer in corporal punishment for those that abuse animals.

There is no denying that Peta has accomplished a great deal of good during its thirty some years of existence.    Peta has successfully exposed mistreatment of animals and they have done this at great sacrifice.  Such as having their employees go undercover in various places such as laboratories, factory farms, circuses or anywhere animals are used.

If you've ever seen some of their videos you will appreciate the lengths these folks have gone in order to acquire such footage.  This often requires going undercover as employees of these facilities in order to obtain the necessary documentation.  This is not for the faint of heart.

One example of Peta exposing mistreatment of animals is the Land O'Lakes video.  I can only applaud them for uncovering to the world Land O'Lake's mistreatment of cows.   There are many more positive examples.

So then, why would someone like me find Peta upsetting?  The answer is that Peta appears to be predominantly comprised of flakes that lack the ability to reason.  They appear to be one dimensional in their thinking and only see things in terms black or white.

A by-product of unreasonableness is often extreme or radical behavior, this in turn has led to wasted time on issues that really don't have the animals best interest at heart.

As someone that loves animals this is frightening to me, because I fear that their endeavors; especially in latter times, may be counter productive.   When the majority of people despise you and view you as radical, then this results in loss of credibility.  It also gives selfish thoughtless people ammunition in their hate of anything related to the humane treatment of animals and veganism.

All of us who love animals rely on organizations like Peta to end animal suffering.  Those of us who donate want to know that our monies are going toward that goal and not some crazy antic that will only negate the purpose.

So Peta, please stop with the craziness!

We need to be humane whenever possible. But I do feel that throwing red paint on people wearing fur and that type of behavior crosses the line.

as a fellow vegan, i have to agree with you. frankly, there have been many times i've hesitated to even admit i was vegan for fear of being identified with the over-the-top craziness. i was crucified, once, on twitter, a couple of years back for admitting that, occasionally, i still consumed my own chickens' eggs (no rooster, therefore no potential life and i hated to just throw the eggs away) and sometimes, used honey from my own bees.
They just don't seem to realized how off-putting their behaviors are and how many more animals could be saved if they just toned it down a little....

Because of the perception of vegans i dont use that term to refer to myself. I have been a "lactose intolerant vegetarian who doesnt like eggs" for nearly 20 years. I am appreciative of peta and all that they do even though the means justify the ends mentality is controversial.
I lovekovelove cedars products and buy them often! Hope i win!

I am trying to use more vegan products. I hate the thought that products are tested on animals.

I teach freshman composition and I have frequently used PETA ads to talk about how to construct an argument. Many of my students fell that PETA takes things so far that it weakens the strength of their arguments. For me personally, I kind of have a love-hate relationship with PETA..I think that the way they discuss/treat women in their ads is sometimes a bit sexist.

Thanks for the comments @Jaydee If I had my own chickens or bees I would do the same. They're just so unreasonable.

Most everyone I know advocates for the ethical treatment of animals; most people I know also think PETA is a bunch of kooks gone off the deep end. I just want to take all those abused animals and love them!

I used to be a strong supporter of PETA. I love animals and feel very strongly about the ethical treatment of animals. However, I believe PETA's agenda and the way they operate has been overtaken by a more radical group of individuals who behave more like street thugs rather than activists. Just because someone doesn't believe in everything you profess doesn't give you the right to commit battery against them by throwing paint, flour or other things on you. According to PETA, anyone who eats meat, chicken, eggs or anything other than what comes from the earth as well as anyone who wears fur of any kind is evil and must be destroyed. The methods used by PETA have so completely turned me off that I no longer contribute to them anymore. I now contribute directly to animal centers because then I know the money goes toward feeding, housing, giving medical care to the animals as compared to being spent on paint and flour to throw on people. I think the founders and original members of PETA would be disgusted and embarrassed by the way PETA is operating now It's a real shame that an organization that began out of love for animals has turned into an organization that spews so much hate.

I think that we all should treat our pets with the same love, respect and compassion that we treat each other with. They depend on us so much and ask for so little.
