FlowerColor Vegan Lipstick by Ecco Bella

The average woman consumes four pounds of lipstick in their lifetime. Eww!  To make matters worse, most leading brands of lipstick contain some really unsavory chemicals and dyes.  My advice is to carefully choose your lipstick.

Ecco Bella is a company that is marketed as a natural skincare line.  FlowerColor is a line of vegan lipsticks by EccoBella.

I was sent FlowerColor lipstick in Rosewood for a review.   The color is rich and it has a really nice shine.   What I really love the most about this lipstick is that it stays put throughout the day.

I'm picky with lipsticks. I really prefer long wearing lipsticks, but there really aren't any viable options for long wearing vegan lipsticks.  This line by Ecco Bella is the first I've come across that delivers in both quality of color and durability.

Most leading brands of lipstick contain all kinds of harmful ingredients such as lead, which is said to be small.  Consider how much lipstick gets consumed this should be of concern.  Lead doesn't easily rid the body, but rather it builds up, so the amount being consumed is cumulative. Over time that small amount of lead can equal something significant.

On the other hand FlowerColor by Ecco Bella only contains trace amounts of lead and this is due to the use iron oxide.

Per the company's site:

Ecco Bella FlowerColor Lipsticks and eyeshadow have been tested for lead, cadmium and mercury. As of January 15, 2008, independent lab results showed only negligible amounts, as follows: Lead 0.08 ppm, Cadmium 0.90 ppm, Mercury 0.046 ppm. The FDA allows 0.10ppm of lead in candy, so our results are even lower than that standard. Instead of FD and C dyes, we use only iron oxides and carmine, so our lipsticks are as pure as the raw materials we buy.

I have never been impressed with FDA standards, but it does appear that most natural companies use iron oxide in their lipsticks, because it is, after-all, a natural element.  After doing a quick Google, I only found two sites offering iron oxide-free lipsticks.

Since lead builds up in the body, the amount of lead in skincare products should be of concern.  Fortunately the trace amount of lead from the iron oxide in Ecco Bella's natural lipstick pales by a landslide with the leading brands of cosmetics.

I was also sent a  lip liner pencil from Ecco Bella in mauve and it matches the Rosewood Lipstick perfectly.  It's everything I like in a lip liner in that it's easy to apply and goes on smoothly making it easy to create the perfect pout.

I really like both products.  As far as trace amounts of lead in iron oxide is concerned, there really isn't anything else viable on the market.  So a natural lipstick that contains this natural element is your best bet as far as product safety is concerned.    On that note, FlowerColor by Ecco Bella is one I would highly recommend.

Hi Alicia, I gave you an alternate method, however, I would still strongly advise having a Google plus account because it seems to really be taking off and most bloggers are now using Google plus.

I've never used vegan lipstick. But if it's long lasting it's worth a try. I don't wear lipstick often because it comes off to easily and seems like a waste.
