Bella Sun Luci; The Taste of Italy

One thing I learned growing up in an Italian family is that the great care that went into creating a meal was a reflection of the love of those doing the cooking.  This was evident in each and every painstakingly meticulous detail, including where each ingredient was obtained.

It's not that my family had a lot of money but,  they were able to have huge gardens and grow the most amazing selection of vegetables and herbs.  We always had fresh tomatoes, peppers and basil; Italian staples that served to make homemade sauce, soups and other scrumptious dishes.   Everything was fresh and oh so good!

Sadly times have changed and due to circumstance none of us are able to maintain a garden.  I do continue to desire the fresh, simple ingredients that were a part of my childhood.

This weekend I had the opportunity to bring back some fond childhood memories with Mooney Farms assortment of fresh sun dried tomato products.

Mooney Farms is a three generation family-run farm based in  northern California.  In 1987 the family sold their Bella Sun Luci Sun Dried Tomatoes in Olive Oil & Herbs at Price Club South San Francisco for the first time.  The products sold out in record speed and history was made.

Simple ingredients such as; fresh sun dried tomatoes, pure 100% olive oil, garlic and a winning combination of spices that are not fully disclosed; it's a secret, really take Bella Sun Luci over the top.  Absolutely delicious!

I  added the Sun Dried Tomato Halves with Italian herbs to a can of diced tomatoes, which I then added to pasta.  It tasted fantastic, very authentic.   I have also been adding the Sun Dried tomatoes to salads.

You can find some really awesome recipes on Mooney Farms site.

Mooney Farms carries an assortment of sun dried tomato products that also includes: Sun Dried Tomato Pesto with Whole Pine Nuts, Sun Dried Tomato Bruschetta, Julienne Cut Sun Dried Tomatoes with Italian Basil and more.  They also offer dry sun dried tomatoes which I have been eating right out of the bag.

In spite of their growth, Mooney farms remains true to their values and their products continue to be made using their tried and true technique of slowly drying their tomatoes in the sun.

I love the taste of everything and like I mentioned the ingredients are pure and simple, however, the products do contain sulfites for color protection, this may pose a problem for those with sulfite sensitivity.

Interesting fact: Ounce per ounce sun dried tomatoes have 12 times the amount of Lycopene than raw tomatoes.  That's pretty impressive.

You can find Bella Sun Luci at Whole Foods, Cosco, etc. you will also be able to purchase the products at Mooney Farms.com.
