The Secret To A Smooth, Flavorful Cup Of Coffee

Coffee connoisseurs and foodies the world over prefer coffee from a french press  So then, the question arises: what do those among us that appreciate the finer things in life know about good coffee that many of us simple folks fail to appreciate?

The definition of connoisseur

a discerning judge of the best in any field

As consumers we often lose our ability for discernment in lieu of the latest fancy trend and marketing scheme.  If you truly desire quality, skip the fancy trends and stick with the tried & true, that is, a simple drip coffee maker; always good to have on hand, coffee grinder and a good french press is all ya need.

Producing premium coffee can be likened to the concept of Occam's razor:

Occam's razor- Among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected

Coffee Makers/methods- Among competing coffee making products the simplest product should be selected

Around a year ago I started using a French Press, and I never looked back.  Mornings are now my favorite time of day, and my morning coffee is something I really enjoy.  Using a French press is not difficult and only takes a few test-runs to produce coffee that is truly to your liking. You have full control over the strength which is a real plus.   No filter results in a pure, more flavorful cup of coffee.  Another benefit: french presses are so affordable as well as versatile.

No paper filter results in a pure, rich, flavorful coffee that's not acidic and goes down every so smoothly

Investing in a good French Press will set you back about thirty to fifty bucks.  Very doable, even for the cheapest among us;)

I use the top rated french press from Kitchen Supreme.  They're a wonderful family run company that doesn't use unsavory marketing schemes to sell their products.  Their french press earned its top rated spot because it's such a great product.

What I love about kitchen Supreme's French Press:

Kitchen Supreme uses Double Broosilicate glass which is a strong heat and crack resistant glass

The carafe is encased in stainless steel, which really helps to protect the glass in case of accidents.

3 easy steps: put the coffee in the carafe, then poor hot water in the carafe and stir, put the lid on carafe, wait four minutes, then press down the handle, pour your coffee and enjoy.  See instructions with photos here

Holds a full 34 ounce

It's also really easy to froth milk or any milk substitute.  Pour the heated milk in the carafe then pump the plunger up and down until you're happy with the level of foam.

Kitchen Supreme includes all the needed extras including three additional screens. I am currently using two as opposed to one screen and this enables me to use any kind of grind that I like. I use any coffee grind, even though it's advised to use a coarse grind in a French Press.  Many times I just buy what's on sale at the grocery store.    Of course, investing in a coffee grinder and using freshly ground coffee adds another element of enjoyment.  This can also be said of using a good premium coffee.  One that I really like is Kicking Horse.

I really love this coffee.  Kicking Horse is an ethical company that is both certified organic and fair-trade.  Kicking Horse offers a nice selection of award winning coffee. Their motto: Kicking Horse delivers "kick ass" coffee.  I couldn't agree more, and it's really a treat compared to what I normally purchase.  Kicking Horse carries a really nice variety of coffee so there's something to appease every coffee preference, and they won't break your budget.
Enjoying the finer things in life requires setting the right ambiance. The cinnamon scented soy candle by Aurorae Yoga does just that, and smells really wonderful.  Aurorae carries other yummy candles that are on my radar. I really love the cinnamon, it's one I would highly recommend.

I prefer to drink coffee before noon, but I'm not opposed to drinking coffee later in the day, even it it contains caffeine.

I didn't know that French presses make smoother, less acidic coffee than paper filters. That sounds great. And I like how the process is so Back To Basics.

I never thought to use my French Press for frothing milk! This has opened up so many doors haha. My wife and I have been looking for decent milk frothing tool to buy... you just saved us some cash!

The last time I used a French Press coffee pot was in Vence, France where we rented an apartment for a week. Loved using this coffee pot. It made great coffee and easy to use.

I find my French Press will make a great strong coffee without any underlying harshness or bitterness. I've gotten away from using it the past year, and I have to make a point of starting up again.

I checked out KS and found out that they also sell the Spiral Slicer, which are pretty cool too. I was also glad to see that Kicking Horse Coffee also has a medium roast coffee that sounds really good.

I'm not much a fan of coffee, to be honest. I pretty much just use it as a health food. I would like to explore alternative kinds and methods, however, to see if I'm just doing it wrong. Maybe I really am a fan and just don't know it! lol

The coffee tastes better with a French Press maker and it is really smooth. I can tell the difference.

I love Kicking Horse coffee - I used to work a missions agency and we used Kicking Horse coffee for fundraisers. They were a great company to deal with!

I would love another French press in my house. My other one was just so old I had to get rid of it, but I do enjoy a nice cup of French pressed coffee.

My mum has a french press that I absolutely love, so my husband and I have been thinking about getting one for a while. We have a burr grinder and love freshly ground coffee, so a good french press combined with the fresh ground coffee would be fantastic. This really sounds like a great one to consider purchasing soon!
