Heart Rate Monitors; Why You Need One & My Recommendations

One thing I learned from taking spinning classes is the import of using a heart rate monitor.  Your heart rate indicates when you reached certain levels of intensity.  Over reaching or under reaching can be counter productive.  Stopping every so often to check your pulse is a hassle and not something I would recommend.  Your best bet is to invest in an actual heart rate monitor.

Over the years I have owned quite a few and I found that the more known brands in monitors last as long as the cheaper models.  There are, however, a couple that I would recommend.

Sportline 660

Sportline Cardio 660; available for both men and women.  Sportline is a tried and true company that have been leaders in producing quality fitness gear and devises for over twenty years.

They no doubt delivered a quality, easy-to-use heart rate monitor.  The Cardio 660 contains some nice benefits that exceed a mare heart rate reading.  Yet, in spite of some of the extras it couldn't be more simple to set up and operate.

Here are some of the added features:

Calories & Fat Burn Tracker
Fat Burn Zone Indicator
Exercise Memory & 50 lap timer
Light
Five year warranty

I love this heart rate monitor.  I like that it's easy to operate and I feel the reading is accurate and reliable.  This retails for $69.99 which is a fine price for the product, but if you're looking for something cheaper than you may want to consider the Sportline Cardio 630, this retails for only $49.99.  With this model you'll still get the Heart Rate reading along with the Calories and Fat burn tracker.

Sportline monitors displays ECG accurate heart rate reading in seconds

The only downside is the chest strap.  I have no problems with straps normally, but with the heat and humidity I find that, even tucked under my sports bra, the strap still slips.   So for those of us who are crazy enough to workout or run in the heat, a strapless model will no doubt be a worthy investment.

Reebok InTouch Heart Rate Monitor

I'm also loving the Reebok InTouch Heart Rate Monitor.  This offers similar features as the Sportline and both are easy to use and setup.

Some feature of the Reebok InTouch include:

Step & distances tracking
Fit zone indicator
Calories burned tracker
Speed monitor
light
5 year warranty

There's no chest strap so in order to get a reading you need to place your finger in the face of the monitor for a few seconds.  The reading is accurate, but if your doing a high intensity workout it may be challenging to do a semi pause, but it is doable.

The Reebok InTouch doesn't track fat grams burned, however, this is easy to calculate.

9 calories=1 fat gram

All you have to do is divide the number of calories burned by nine to determine the fat grams burned.

The Reebok InTouch appears to be the same technology of the Sportline 660.  From experience I can discern that they're both giving me an accurate reading and consistently so, that's really the most important attribute in a heart rate monitor.  The added features are just the icing on the cake.

Heart Rate Monitors are a necessity.  If you're in a fitness program and working out or doing any kind of strenuous activity it's really a good idea to have one.  Both the Reebok InTouch and Sportline 660/630 do a great job at giving an accurate reading as well as offering some extras that will come in handy.

I have a wrist watch monitor that I use. It works pretty good, but it's getting kind of grungy from all the sweat - doesn't seem to matter how I clean it, it's still not "new" looking.

I do not use one right now but really want one. I have been on a lifestyle change since the 1 st of the year and a HRM would help me on this path.

I have never used a heart rate monitor, but at my age I think I could use a little backup while working out. A monitor would certainly help in planning my routine, y'know - timing and reps and intensity, etc

I've never used a heart rate monitor but more importantly I am hoping to win this for my 20 yr old daughter Michae'la Shanal bc she wants and NEEDS a heart rate monitor so badly! Michae'la is such a good caring person and wants to help others by becoming a career personal fitness trainer, she is currently working 2 jobs 80 hrs a week in order to pay her living expenses and save up money to go to an exceptional certified trade school to become a personal fitness trainer (with job placement) and in the meantime she is still passionate about health and fitness. She doesnt have a heart rate monitor and this would really help toward her dream goals and this young lady really really deserves some good karma her way to encourage her so THANK YOU and thank you to the sponsor for this giveaway I am excited and grateful to even have a chance to possibly win this valuable important item for her!

I have not at home (only when I've been a patient in the hospital) But both my husband and I are at the age and activity level where we really should - especially because for both of us heart disease runs in the family. So we would love to win this - and thanks also for the reminder that if not - we really should buy one!
