It appears that more people are getting on the non-dairy band wagon, or at least greatly reducing their dairy intake. The reason could be an increase in dairy intolerance, the great 'Is milk really healthy'' debate, or it could be that consumers are more educated in regard to the poor quality of milk sold in supermarkets. It's a certainly a wise move to avoid consuming products with hormones and antibiotics. I also think we are all learning that labels with words like 'organic' can be deceptive.
There are healthier and even tastier alternatives. My favorite non-dairy beverage is Sunsational.
Sunsational is made with Sunflower Kernels, pure genius right? It taste wonderful and contains some real diet-friendly benefits.
First off, Sunsational contains both Chlorogenic and Phenolic Acid. Both are powerful antioxidants as well as antimicrobial. What really interest me, however, are the weight loss benefits.
Chlorogenic Acid has been found to inhibit fat absorption and increase metabolism.
This is the same ingredient that is derived from pure green coffee bean extract and is being touted by Dr. Oz and others as a magic fat burner.
Chlorogenic Acid does this by burning glucose and fat in the liver and by slowing the release of sugar into the bloodstream. An actual clinical study was done where participants took a supplement containing Chlorogenic Acid for 12 weeks and lost 10% of their body weight. It's noteworthy that they did this on a daily diet of two thousand calories...and no side effects!
Sunsational is comprised of sunflower kernels which are a significant source of Chlorogenic Acid.
As impressive as all this is, it's not the reason I replaced rice dream with Sunsational.
While there are some really good non-dairy milk substitutes, Sunsational scores really big in both taste and calories. Because it's lower in calories and higher in fiber, one serving is only one weight watchers point.
I use it on cereal, in coffee, and earlier It made my unfit-for-ants protein shake taste pretty decent. This will no doubt be a compliment to many recipes and dishes.
Sunsational is currently available in select stores for 2.99, you can also purchase a 12 pack of Sunsational at Amazon.com for a discount. It pays to buy in bulk and Sunsational has a one year shelf life. Although this would only last me three months.
